For many years, the track team has been efficacious and individuals on the team have never disappointed their fans. This season is no different. The track team has many talented runners-some who have been to state championships. This year’s boys’ and girls’ teams are focused on winning the district championship and then want to work towards moving onto regionals. .
“Our season is going good. We lost a lot of seniors from last year but the new and returning people have really stepped up and made a difference this year. The new people are still settling into their races but everyone is working hard and dropping their times. Our team is on the verge of something great right now” comment sophomore Caleb Huang.
Huang is a returning track player who has only improved since last season. Last year, he ran a 5:31 mile and this year he has improved to a 5:10. His two-mile time is 11:0 and his 800 meter is 2:13.

Senior D’andre Walker is a jumper and hurdler. He has a tremendous work ethic and always gives it 100% whether it is a practice or a competition. He inspires others to do great on their races. His triple jump is 39-3.
Senior Cordell Clayton is a sprinter. He works his hardest and is a valuable member on the relay teams. He is not only a great athlete, but he also encourages others. He runs a 200-meter dash in 23.21 seconds and a 400-meter dash in 51.65 seconds.
These players are clearly talented, but their coach certainly has to do with their tremendous performances.
“Coach Bowles is a great coach. He always pushes us to be the best that we can and is very encouraging. He keeps the track team tight together, like a family. He wants the best for us in school and in track,” Huang commented.
The track team will continue to work hard as they run through the season. The team’s next meet is the Dogwood Invitational at UVA against about 40 schools, this Saturday, May 6.
