Varsity Boys Basketball team still strong despite one loss

Last season, the boys’ basketball team went quite deep into the playoffs before a loss to Deep Run. This year, they only brought back two starters and were ranked 9th before the beginning of the season, their lowest in about five years. True to their name, the Warriors have not allowed their low rank define them. They have won each of their first five games, including a comeback win at Deep Run and a statement win over Hermitage. This past Friday, December 9, they suffered their first loss of the season to Varina, who is ranked above the Warriors and has a very good team. The game came down to the final second, in which junior transfer Torriano Lewis missed a free throw to tie the game.  Despite this one loss, the boys are still strong and have the sight of a playoff spot in their view.

Senior point guard Chris Morris said, “They didn’t really believe in us at the beginning of the season, but we were okay with that. We used it as motivation and showed that we deserve to be recognized as one of the strongest teams.” Despite the loss to Varina, the boys’ basketball team is still looking great and their loss will not impact their rank or playoff position very much at all.
