The boys’ and girls’ indoor track teams have been hard at work since the beginning of November. The running joke about indoor track is that the only “indoor” aspect about it is the last meet of the season at the Arthur Ashe Sports Complex. The rest of the season’s practices and meets are outdoors, which means these athletes endure the harsh winter conditions while still pouring their hearts out on the track.
In the last meet, which took place Wednesday, December 7, the boys’ team took first place in the men’s 4×100 meter race, and senior Ramon Damon came in second place in the 50-meter dash. Junior Akeem Smith threw the shotput close to 50 feet, which will serve him well in his chase to earn a state championship.
Coach Brown said “Last year, we were short on members during indoor track because the weather makes most people not want to run. This year, the team is a lot fuller and we’re all going to get better together.”
The team’s next meet is Tuesday, December 13th at Freeman High School.
