The Henrico Warriors football team had a great season. Despite ending with a 6-5 record, they still represented Henrico well. They ended the regular season with a record of 6-4, and three of those losses came by a combined five points (two one-point losses and a three-point loss). Otherwise, the Warriors would have ended the season 9-1 with a better playoff seeding.
This season was definitely a success, though. In the two years prior to this season, the Warriors starting lineup was essentially the same and there were a lot of great athletes. Though this season was supposed to be more of a building year, they still made the playoffs. Senior captain Matt Vozar commented that “nobody really thought we’d be as good as we were this year, and I think that motivated us. It was just a bunch of young guys whose goal was to go out there and give their best effort each week.”
Next year, the football team brings back a multitude of starters and hard-workers. Coach Glasco always demands this policy, and it will continue to pay off in the coming years. In fact, the Warrior football team has an even better chance of making the playoffs next year.
“We had to deal with a lot of adversity this season. Some of it was self-inflicted. We are a young team and we have to establish who we are and who we want to be. The seniors have come a long way from their freshmen year. The senior class is an outstanding group and we are very proud of the young men they have worked so hard to become. We will be returning several key players in 2017. If we work hard on and off the field next season will be one that we all can be proud of” Coach Glasco said.
